They say Finnish and Japanese sensitivity to nature is very alike. In Finland, Shiraki (White wood, Birch) is mostly used in daily Finnish life.

In Japan, we have been cherishing forest and protecting nature from generation to generation. We both are living with the blessing of the forest. Nevertheless, we Japanese are facing a danger in Japanese forests today.

Because of depopulation, there are not enough people to take care of "planting" "cultivating" and "harvesting" which we call "Circle of nature", and accordingly it is now collapsing.

Taking this opportunity of exhibition in Helsinki, we hope to verify the virtue of Finnish attitude towards nature. And thus we hope to keep the virtue of Japanese feeling towards nature and traditional skills of making good use of the typical Japanese material, bamboo, and of the special lacquering using "urushi" and other natural oils, which Japanese young generation today is less aware of.

Our aim is to find how to relive an Art of Japanese tradition which would help us improve the “Quality of Life” , in collaboration with Finnish designers.
